We are a multilingual team of experienced sports lawyers, agents and scouts.

Started by two lawyers with a passion for football, our founders have made sure that DBW Global is a sports agency with an edge.

Our team of solicitors have specialist knowledge in sports law as well as tax, commercial, intellectual property, litigation and employment law. This means that we can help you not only in your career in football, but with sponsorship, endorsement and agency contracts.

Our player recruitment team have over forty-five years’ experience in professional academy recruitment and have close ties to a wide selection of Premiership League and Championship clubs. Based across the UK, our team will watch your matches, provide constructive feedback, and be available to meet locally or in our London offices.

Who are we?

London Team

• John Wallace

As a registered FA intermediary since 2008, John has acted for players and clubs during transfer deals. He has also represented Premier League and Championship Clubs such as QPR, Stoke City, West Ham, Manchester United and Liverpool for training compensation claims. John speaks fluent French and worked in Paris, Bordeaux and Brussels for an international law firm.

A lawyer for almost a decade, and a passionate Liverpool fan since the age of four, John has the expertise and specialist knowledge of sports law.

• Xabier de Beristain Humphrey

Half-Basque, half-British, Xabier is fluent in English, Spanish, French and German, which enables him to work closely with many European and South American players and managers. Working in sport since 2009 and a registered FA intermediary, Xabier has clients at both British and European clubs including Marseille, Valencia, Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal. He has also represented rugby players at Saracens, and British, European and World Champion boxers. A lawyer since May 2006, Xabier previously worked at leading law firms in London, Madrid and Paris.

He splits his support half-Athletic-Bilbao and half-Manchester United and regularly travels to watch his favourite teams.

• Alan Smith

As one of the first coaches in England to be awarded the FA Advanced Coaching Licence, Alan Smith began his coaching career with Wimbledon FC. During his time as Manager at Dulwich Hamlet he won promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division. After having spent ten years at Crystal Palace, Alan was appointed as Manager in 1993. He secured them the Division One Championship and was awarded Championship Manager of the Year. With subsequent roles at Wycombe Wanderers, Fulham, a return to Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough, Alan has decades of experience, which he will be able to share with DBW Global and their players.

• Mark Singer

Mark is a disputes lawyer with a specialism in sports. He has worked on various contentious matters for a top Premier League football club. He has also acted for the British Horseracing Authority on a judicial review of the Horserace Betting Levy Board regarding the liability of betting exchanges to pay horseracing betting levy. The claim was heard in the Court of Appeal.

Mark’s head supports Spurs, but his heart supports Barnet and was a mascot in 1991.

• Billy Jenks

As well as commercial legal matters, Billy advises our clients on their intellectual property position. Billy provided a French international footballer advice in relation to protecting the player’s name as well as the handling of his image rights, following the player’s £12m move to a top English football club. Billy has also helped enforce the copyright of a client following a leading kit manufacturer’s infringement, which was settled with a fantastic result for the client.

Despite once playing for Khoromkhon FC in the Mongolian Premier League, Billy has since stuck to the occasional 5-a-side game and following Chelsea FC.

• George Baldwin

George is one of the youngest UEFA qualified coaches in Europe. Having worked at Arsenal and Chelsea and trained through Arsenal's Coaching Programme, he has a wealth of experience in working with players and alongside coaches and scouts. As a qualified technical scout, with a Performance Analysis Diploma, George has helped create new technical forms of scouting and data analysis in this area.

His depth of knowledge of football in numerous countries has allowed him to develop a unique formula for professional recruitment. Using objective data in a way that has not been done before in sports management. This has been influenced by meetings with managers such as Roberto Martinez and top football clubs in Germany, in which he is in regular contact. He also has previous experience working with other sports management companies in a variety of capacities.

George is an avid Liverpool fan and a minority shareholder of Real Oviedo, one of the oldest clubs in Spain that is currently presiding in the second division.

• Isobel Carro

Isobel works as the London Office Manager, and acts as a parent and player liaison where she organises workshops, travels and keeps up to date with fixtures and results. As Isobel’s football knowledge increases she hopes that her Fantasy Football strategies and successes will too.

• Mick Murray

Mick was the director of Youth Football at Birmingham City FC for ten years. He then went on to lead the Midland Recruitment department for Aston Villa FC, which he held for over seventeen years. Now, Mick is the Head of our Football Development section in the Midlands and leads the Player Development Programme, working with our players to help them further their careers.

• Martin Bewell

For several years, Martin was a manager and assistant manager at Non-League Football Clubs in the Midlands Area. He then went to work for Aston Villa FC as a National Talent Identification Scout where he remained there for over 17 years.

During Martin’s seventeen years at Aston Villa FC he was the Deputy Head of Recruitment in the Midlands and ran two development centres in Leicester and the Hinckley area for their Academy. Now, Martin works as our Deputy Head of our Football Development Section in the Midlands and provides feedback to the players on their performances, as well as providing match reports to the London Office.

International Team

• Daniel Villagran

Daniel is one of the most experienced people in Argentinian club football. He works closely with a number of clubs, including Boca Juniors, River Plate and Racing Club among others.

Exclusively with DBW Global, Daniel works to identify top young talent from S. America as well as established players. Together, we find the players transfers into Europe’s top leagues. Some of the players we have worked with include Jonathan Calleri, Nicolás Lodeiro, Claudio Yacob and Leonel Vangioni.

• Cristian Villagran

Cristian is Daniel’s son and works closely with his father. He resides in Switzerland and works with many of the clubs there as well as elsewhere in Europe.

Cristian was himself a fantastic sportsman, having been a successful professional tennis player, representing Switzerland in the Davis Cup with Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.

• Javi Gonzalez

Javi was one of the first 20 licenced intermediaries in Spanish football.

Based in Madrid, Javi works closely with most clubs in Spain especially in and around Madrid.
